because I love,
I weep when night falls
causing me to see
less ordinary wonders

than by day,
when the moon
cannot feign it's
inexhaustible light

because I love,
I can write about
the saddest moments-

of the Pleiades
rising in my eyes,
and the faces of my
unborn children

shadows of reeds o'er me
when I'm gone,
who's roots would
embrace me tenderly

as does he now,
not worthy this pain,
indulging the fragrance
that conceals my absence

in spite of
what cannot be spoken
and the broken whirls
of my fingertips

to reach but not touch,
while unknowingly
the saddest moment I write,
because I love
.

i feel like i can really understand this now.

not worthy this pain,
indulging the fragrance
that conceals my absence

i feel like i could literally fall forever into the depth of this. i love how you blur desire and pain and memories and your own existence so seamlessly, as if the effort to abstract one from the other out of your being is such absurd folly.

which of course it is...

Thank you for these beautiful thoughts, Shane.

I read this piece often, Jade, and each time I do it grips me as though it were my first reading. Each time I marvel at the brilliance of your verse (... "the broken whirls / of my fingertips"... god, how do you think of such beautiful phrases?)

Each time I'm taken to a moment in time where the universe became a nexus, and all things were seen in the purity of shared suffering.

This is an intensely beautiful piece, and masterfully crafted poetry at its finest.

I should try to respond better to such an eloquent nod to a piece that means so much to me - that was born from a series of actions & emotions through a night that could never portend the outcome as beautifully as it wound up being.

Your thoughts and impressions of this poem truly inspire me, John. I can't ever thank you enough. Never enough. ♥
