Coming up from Aswan with his catch,
he tacks the course of his dhow
along the Nile of her dark eyes,
her long hair,
the narcotic of blue water lilies,
her lotus pose facing both
the rising, and the setting sun,
the young fisherman begs to know
as he sings upward with his might
and his desire, into the sail
that catches the crosswind--
What is your name, scented one,
in the smoke that rises
from the shores of the cataracts,
where I bring to you my bounty!
He peers into the azure above,
waiting for her answer to fill his sail,
calling out once more as his teeth gleam--
Ma huwa 'ismuki?

I found part of me by accident
in a Parisian cardboard box
with satin rags; purple ink
depicting people and clouds.
Tungsten from the wires
of lightbulb husks.
He kicked my hand when I pulled him out,
my fingers caught up in the blonde.
Here there are boys who count
the golden rings of Saturn,
and retinas that lick up the sunset.
Pictures of Japanese lanterns on the sea-crest
and swarms of orange fireflies.
Girls who do not dot
their I's with hearts,
and wait for iodine skies
with slow, dripping
thunder.

that soft, coddled creature, all back-lit
hair & skin that smells
so good you could hurt it

& pussies like orchids
because
I'm too black-eyed &
tired, my hair smells like
forest fires. Theseus won't write

& when I cry on the bus
it's at a child, quiet yelps
of a black-jawed vixen
eating
herself
as she listens to the Alice-song
of those flower-cunts purring,
Why do you have to make
being sad
so ugly?
because I don't understand
how to be a woman, that
the hammered envelope
of obedience
or the little girl that
sits in my stomach and swings her

What inspired you to start writing?
I honestly can't remember when I even started writing; it feels like I've always wanted to write. But, the inspiration for me to keep writing comes from the notion of taking a nebulous idea and shaping it into a story, of turning essentially nothing into something — something real, something true and moving. I love to reach people through my words, even just to make them smile or to stop a moment and think.
Also, my dream job is to become a nove
