across my breasts-
he calls me wisteria

OppositeThe world glistened with abandon
in the electrical parade,

when and where the night skies too
seemed receptive and robust,

yet even while I'm still awake
I'm content in the quiet of my dreams

like the creatures and those who sleep
in the opposite place and time

where plans and promises of a new year
become folly, and no longer exist.

MatrixIt is not how I thought of you
at the moment of your admission
which one might see as terrible
in the darkness you confide,
but as moonless in its secrecy

where my perfume cannot reach-
tumbling over black cataracts,
blood-flecked and rabid; guided,
albeit momentarily seduced,

to be lead behind
eroding bulwarks of atrocity,
climaxing into this matrix dome,
the head of a spear through a noose-

but am I not merely a bandit;
bereaved by calamity at the
pinnacle of my desire gone awry?

Or in reality, a sinister paradox
unwelcome, borne of my
own darkness, that begs you stay.

Blue Lotus

Coming up from Aswan with his catch,
he tacks the course of his dhow
along the Nile of her dark eyes,
her long hair,
the narcotic of blue water lilies,

her lotus pose facing both
the rising, and the setting sun,

the young fisherman begs to know
as he sings upward with his might
and his desire, into the sail
that catches the crosswind--

What is your name, scented one,
in the smoke that rises
from the shores of the cataracts,
where I bring to you my bounty!

He peers into the azure above,
waiting for her answer to fill his sail,
calling out once more as his teeth gleam--
Ma huwa 'ismuki?

Urban Evisceration     there is a thundering of one hundred buffalos-
the metro awakens
          and stampedes across the pre-cast
                                   terrains of my intestines
welders busy mending on one end
   cutting on the other
          surgeon handed precision and each moment costing another man's life

Remembering TrainsI recall how as a child
I'd walk the railroad tracks,
surveying the soot-covered ground
in search of Morocco and Spain.

I'd lie prone across the wood ties
to hear trains roll from miles away,
feeling them in my belly.

If I had pennies to spare,
I'd place them along the iron
and rush back the next day
to claim the flattened treasure.

I remember a late summer
when humidity was thick in the air,
lightning arcs lit the night,
riding the rails down the line.

So startling was the crackle
that flew in a shower of sparks
rivaling the 4th of July.

I loved the rumble of three engines
hauling a full load of boxcars.

You're brave enough to do what the haters can't
As long as it makes you feel good about yourself

The cliffs of my shoulder blades

London as MythThe serpent is Janus-faced a thousand fold,
With a Medusa’s head of many mouths
And a body coiled, spliced and cold
That combs the metal undergrowth;

A metropolis from stone and steel,
That reaches ‘round the monoliths
Made out of sweat and blood of will,
Tapering sword-edges breaking rifts

Among the reefs of called-up spirits,
With the ferocity to throw down hail,
Or to rise up the phoenix who whips
A gentle heat from wings and tail.

Divided Against A Blackened SkyDivided against a blackened sky,
No idea where my loyalties lie;
I've been outcast by the people I knew:
I can't find anyone who will stand true.
I fought beside them for so long
I don't know where I went wrong
Now I'm left here alone
Never have I been so far from home.
Walking by myself in the dark
My soul is tearing apart.
Feeling longing for what I lack
But I know I can never go back
Even as the darkness closes in,
This is where I'm supposed to begin
I cannot live, yet I will not die
For I'm divided against a blackened Sky.

by shadow and lightning strobe,
paint-by-number puddles trace

in the aftermath
