Author's Comments

Through the month of July, I'll be posting a haiku poem everyday, renewing this same deviation with each submission, in honor of the summer HaikuWriMo hosted by `MSJames.

I've listed this month-long renga (linked haiku) under the category of Nature, but within the complete collection of 31 pieces, there will be plenty of Human Nature.

One thing though, you won't find any 5-7-5 dogma here. I am a novice, but I am also a modern haijin and therefore a revolutionary, and proud to be.

The preview piece is the stamp designed for the summer HaikuWriMo 2008 by `RetroZombie

7/12/08: Back on track thanks to Firefox3 and the one who recommended it!

7/19/08: Satori -- a moment of realization -- when I knew that I would be okay! :frail:

7/23/08: I observed two beetles in coitus sinking in a pool. They would be dead soon, but they never let go. I was drawn by how certain death can't take away the need, the desire.

7/27/08: Feeling light as air going into the last days of the WriMo :floating:

7/31/08: Taking flight as the end of another amazing WriMo sets on the horizon. What an honor it's been, with so much happening to many of us here on dA besides! (DD's, senior ticks, =DailyDeviants features, interviews, articles, published works) -- with my love & warmest regards to all the other participating haijin; thank you for your support & friendship!

Wonderful start, Jade! I love the image of the austere tree, and combining it with the lover's promise makes the mind leap to see the connections, and brings tremendous depth to the piece!

Always look on the bright side... there's more light there and it's easier to find stuff.
:iconkatiewings:
Wow, what a GREAT start, Jade!

...A tree lasts thousands of years; how long will she wait for a fragile thing like love? Will the love flourish like the cherry blossoms, or will it die a quiet, haijin death?

Can't wait till tomorrow! I'm doing this month's HaikuWriMo, too! Unofficially, but still. I'm kind of nervous! ha, ha!

Good luck to you! :D

Holy slag, it's a fraggin JET! Get in the car---HOLY PRIMUS!! :noes:
:iconkeraness:
You never cease to amaze me, Jade! This is a great start! I love how much of a story you tell in these two lines. I also love the correlation between the long-living tree and the concept of undying love.

Your first piece is beautiful SG...as with any excellent haijin, you know how to transmute haiku form while still applying every principle of the art...you make me proud to spend my nights studying with you

I also love the manner in which the austerity of the tree reflects the simple, but lasting truth of a love which transcends all superficiality. Very nice!
:iconesin:
Someone pass the smelling salts. :faints:
(I have a feeling, between you and Lawrence, I'm going to be swept off my feet often.)

Fantastic start. Loving how, in two lines, you've managed so many layers of meaning.
:iconjade-pandora:
Thank you, dear one, for your thoughts on my opening piece, and for those sweet words about your anticipation of whatever may come from Laurence's collection, and my own! Your comments are very special to me. :rose:

YG...

i'm so very moved by your response and for what you feel of this, my first piece to the wrimo collection to come. Particularly because you, one of the finest writers of hiaku on dA, took in an unknown, a no-body novice who simply picked up haiku to write for the sheer joy of it, knowing very little about it's structure & form, and nothing of its history - and was totally ignorant of tanka & senryu - and didn't tell her what to do or what to write, but laid open this ancient art and let me breathe it in, letting me learn in my own voice - while you found yourself learning in turn! Truly an honor for me, knowing of your pride...

thank you much.

:iconjade-pandora:
Thank you, Kera!

i'm very touched how you have embraced so perfectly the meaning of my little piece.

:iconjade-pandora:
Why thank you, Katie!

It's good to hear from you, and how i love your enthusiasm in what i write!

Seriously? You're in the wrimo? But that's wonderful! i look forward to your submissions :excited:
