While involved with the HaikuWriMo 2008 July 1-31 [link] I've written pieces that are either straight senryu, or lean more towards the style. They could go in my WriMo collection, but instead I've compiled another set apart from the main body for your enjoyment.

Edit: changed #7

Love how they all link together to create a larger picture of summer as a whole. The first one is my favorite; it's a very sweet image. I love little ducklings.

Always look on the bright side... there's more light there and it's easier to find stuff.

Well done SG, this is an excellent foundation for beginning to learn senryu  My favorite pieces in this set are without a doubt 3, 7, and 8. Your sense of irony and humor shines in this selection.

3-This is very good senryu. The highway being far, but not "far enough" contains a sense of irony and humor that because of the dead skunk's sudden appearance (indicated by the structure of the poem) takes a slightly dark slant. This is good because senryu makes use of irony, light humor, dark humor, sarcasm, and other techniques.

7- This piece also contains subtle irony which is revealed in your wordplay. I found it interesting that in this piece, you have taken incontinence, normally associated with dogs as they relieve themselves while walking and attached it to the women themselves. By doing this, you have shifted control away from the owners to the dogs. Associating the dogs with "church" also gave me an image of stiff little hounds (or maybe poodles) walking rigidly and briskly...again implying a shift in control. The irony here is excellent.

8-this piece was purely visual for me. there is a light but lusty humor here that I found irresistible :floating:

oh thank you... and yes me too! i stopped in time and everyone else fortunately saw why in time... 6 lanes (3 going east, 3 going west) of commuters watching this family of ducks -- mama and her four offspring -- cautiously crossing. i loved it... it took my mind off of the usual things! :)

I really like this set-

#2 - love the animal sensibility here (to produce an image of animals which aligns humans with animals - to remind us of our animalness).

#4 - great "synaesthetic" image which produces a bodily reaction in me - Ugggghhhh - I know that taste!!! Great "taste-image."

#5 is intriguing. I really like it - the last image especially. It has a surreal feel, even though it isn't surreal.

#7 is my favourite of this set I think (although - that could just be today). It's a lovely set of images which unfold as Lawrence has pointed out. The dogs are in control, while the ladies are incontinent... wonderful reversal of the animal/human relationship.
