Becausebecause I love,
I weep when night falls
causing me to see
less ordinary wonders

than by day,
when the moon
cannot feign it's
inexhaustible light

because I love,
I can write about
the saddest moments-

of the Pleiades
rising in my eyes,
and the faces of my
unborn children

shadows of reeds o'er me
when I'm gone,
who's roots would
embrace me tenderly

as does he now,
not worthy this pain,
indulging the fragrance
that conceals my absence

in spite of
what cannot be spoken
and the broken whirls
of my fingertips

to reach but not touch,
while unknowingly
the saddest moment I write,
because I love

cold brooding night
is kept
jealous and waiting,
while lunar mistress
takes herself a lover

the moon-
her milky luminescence
warms him in spite
the lack of heat
from an indigo soul

CarolingEach spring as a child
when family parties of
holiday celebrations
by then were just
mere echos in my head

I'd go a-caroling

while playing in the
fresh mud of our garden
toes wriggling deep
alongside the sow bugs
that tilled the soil

tomboy that I was
still in my Sunday best
my voice would rise up
to the birds perched
on the backyard fence

as I'd go a-caroling

taking in the dappled sun
strained through the branches
of a eucalyptus
that had a treehouse
where you could find me

a-caroling so free and easy
in that tree all breezy

in the crow's nest swaying
watching for pirates - avast!
I'd call out, saying
to the cap'n far below

autumn still
in the trees

bursting from the eaves-

the warm air

fingers curled in death-

TreasuresIntrospective on this night
I thought I might
take a sentimental stroll
through some family momentos

Finding photos that show
when I wasn't big at all
visiting my great-aunt Ro'
who lived up from the pier

Wooden stairs painted white
with rails on either side
leading to an open porch
fronting a clapboard house

Built before the 20's-
how the screen door creaked,
the rooms dimly lit within
and always kept neat as a pin

Curled in my chair to recall
the old music I'd hear-
a distant echo all alone
from far down the hall

Polished floors and walls
and ceilings shone of
daylight from a window
at the back where it ended

I am the mother,
so much younger
and overflowing

You are the child
pushed from my body,
so much older
and suckling me

I see my death in
your unquestioning eyes,
rocking you gently
in the aftermath

I feel you enter
my unfettered soul
and I in turn
hear you crying for me

I am the cradle
that sways you still
assuring,
setting the stage-

To live again
as your offspring
while you bide time
till I am of age

For as long as the sun shines upon the earth,
This orb that turns slowly beneath my feet,
How many suns will set 'til I gaze upon your face.

For as long as it continues to give birth
To the seasons, to renew while death retreats,
How many seasons will die 'til the sight of you makes my heart race.

For as long as the moon reflects its phases within me,
Stirring my passions by its eternal ebb and flow,
How many moons will fade 'til I reach thee.

For as long as it takes until I know,
The universe has no boundaries and no center,
Its darkness hides answers I shall never find.

For the love I have has no beginning,
No end to leave behind, no way to enter
Where the universe has no boundaries and no center.
