"a sister's eyes"

I think of them
and recall how wise
are the eyes of
my little sister,
always laughing-

wind whisperer
through outstretched
oceans of blue grass
surrounded by
rolling island dunes

and the stalks of
her crowning pale glory,
but her eyes
are the constant
changing of seasons-

the silver grey
of low-lying mists
that roll in at dawn
after the night
gives up its gems,

deepest sapphires,
to reclaim them when
she stirs from sleep
while I keep
clinging to her,

and I let myself
drift in her seasons
with eyes open,
feeling safe a while
in our single bed

A rensaku inspired by a conversation I had with *rottenpeeches as she described her younger sister. From that I wrote this poem for moonRae of Newfoundland.

Always look on the bright side... there's more light there and it's easier to find stuff.

I'm so glad - and thank you!

This reminded me of the poem you dedicated to me (which, by the way, I will be reviving when I upload my deviant ID; I'm still so incredibly grateful that you wrote something so beautiful for me). I love the last four stanzas in particular; 'her eyes / are the constant / changing of seasons', 'after the night / gives up its gems', and 'I let myself / drift in her seasons' are my favourite lines.

Thank you, sweet one, yes - I thought of you during part of the writing of this piece. I'm grateful to know that you'll be restoring my poem dedicated to you in the near future.

And thank you so much for your thoughts on this.

What a lovely way to feel about one's sister. I love how her eyes and their colour are central to the poem, and I love the wonderful, bright and cheerful and comforting images you spin from this central theme. It also feels beautifully nostalgic.
