in the helium of a night
where constellations ignite
the blood-spattered atrium
of a late summer's sky,
I find myself a comet
shooting the urban grid
in an urgency as I race
a suicidal rim on two wheels
in the blackness between the fires,
my red-shifted thoughts crossing
light years out-of-body
and outliving me
till the awareness of you
slingshots me at Mach speed
to await your arrival
long before it happens,
caught at the last light
so close to my destination,
inhaling the danger of you,
where to idle the demon
begs disaster, even if the
interlude proves a watershed –
by Neptune's light, I will
wish to death I had run the red

Charlatans
There was that unexpected duality to it, something of
a pan, flashing in salt marshes, broken up like old bones,
a war dream served with warmed nuts and Dewars,
drawled civility over upgraded seat assignments and
that Friday afternoon sense of having dodged the bullet.
Peopled canyons receded beyond lozenges of pitted glass
in that vertiginous sacrament we sometimes mocked,
mere hours since a proud dog-and-pony apparatus
went missing, sucked up barking into granite-clad commerce
and a sky gone gray in January's stolid transaction queue.
As long as they were talking in those soft syllables, those

It is warm black cloth
that tumbles my loose head
My eyes shrink softly
below the ragged line

under the camphor blankets.
there is a man at the back door.

Heart jangles on the ripcord kick
flay these arms at the silhouette
snatching at the hot light prickles
it is black behind him.
My gorge is dry packed
a dust wall a dumbed jam
and trying to force the tight
broken glass scream
out panic! out panic! out
out out out
is like tearing plastercast with teeth
like defecating a tumour-
the noise thumps!

a solid bark gasp,

February Triple Feature2014 ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE CONTEST WINNERS
the-haiku-club's 2014 Attitude of Gratitude Contest winners have been announced! As a prize, I owe them all a feature. So what I'm gonna do is dedicate this month's First Weekend Feature to them. (It's almost the weekend, right?)
Tying for first place are somnomollior and timeraider, while jade-pandora claims the third place spot.
somnomollior, or Cat White, won with her Untitled gratitude choka, "a bittersweet memory in a vivid, finely-described setting, with a hopeful vibe amidst the pain":
This was truly a pleasure to read, as is much of Cat's other work. A ten-year veteran of dA, Cat has an extensive

Jade, this is just amazing! This is the kind of poem I pour over, and keep coming back to, to catch more layers of meaning with every read. Structurally, your word choice is exquisite - not only are you squeezing every drop of effect with your use of sound, but the pacing is brilliant - your unique command of language lets you choose words with not only the optimum sound qualities, but also word length that really enforces, and drives home, the pacing of the poem!
"caught at the last light / so close to my destination" - I was thrilled to see that phrase! You've given it a wonderful home and inspired even more with it!
The environment you create for the reader is as rich as ever - this is something I always cherish in your work, and it's present in this piece in spades! "the blood-spattered atrium / of a late summer's sky" wowwwwww!!! How could you create a more brilliant description? Setting a mood and projecting a vivid image all at once!
When I read this poem, it's akin to when I see a particularly brilliant visual art piece - I want to study it and take it all in to try and learn from it's exquisite quality.
