Literature Text
With promises to be good,
you prayed every day
and waited for the sign,
even when a songbird touched
down on the roofs of Kansas
and went hollow on your shoulder.
The shedding of teardrops,
the coming out of a heartland
from its religion.
Breathing the smoke of its ash,
and being washed clean of what
you thought you knew.
The locusts never come,
the harvest will yet fail,
but don't deny the butterfly
that carries you over pastures
of dairy cows too busy
to look up at you and judge.

Are you Gay?
My heart threatens to gag me.
Needing to exorcise a demon,
these speechless fingers tremble
against silent computer keys.
Voice hiding, far off
in one of those dusty shelve books
with the yellowed pages, smelling of
age and wisdom's of years past
one finds in a 25 cent bookstore.
I think I'm dying, gagging and choking
on words that lock themselves willingly away
behind a worthless, self loathing poets tongue.
"I don't know."
I. don't. fucking. know.
I must hate myself, or this demon that breathes
its hot, angry whispers inside my head
would set me free from a castled prison
built within the marrow of these cowardly bones.

Homosexuality Bites
They found me slumped over in the school showers
With a towel loosely wrapped around my waist
Scalding hot water was blistering my skin
As I bled from an unspeakable place
A hard-handed teacher dragged me to my feet
With little or no sign of sympathy
For the bruising to my feeble framed ribcage
And the fractures to my identity
I think they all thought that I had it coming
As no one was willing to testify
That the sodomy inflicted upon me
Was something to which I hadn’t complied
Boisterous boys laughing in the corridors
As I shamefully limped throughout the day
Not a thought for the pain that was inflicted
Just worried for what my pa

I watched a documentary about an amazing country/western artist, Chely Wright on cable, and as I heard of her struggle and attempt to resist the natural urge of her sexuality, knowing who & what she was since the age of ten (she's now 39), it not only moved me to tears, but to dash off this little poem with pen & paper while the documentary was still on.
Not only did her story inspire me to this, but I learned of a wonderfully talented artist with her beautiful music and soul. Here is a youtube link to one of her songs whose video became an instant favorite for me.
I've never been a big fan of country/western, but I know good sounds, and good artists, when I see/hear/read them!

tiganusi included me whenever ago in his "glorious" journal Ten Things I Don't Hate About You (promising title, am I right) and of course that meant I had to do one of these myself. Here I basically outline to you my favourite deviants ever and the reason why; who knows, you might like them enough to give them a watch, or fave.
In the words of Mrs-Durden, who tagged tiganusi and whose words I'm stealing, the reason for this I've been trying to outweigh the negative with the positive, show love and appreciation to people, give thanks to those who have helped me, and simply be grateful for all the good things in my life that make it possible for me to get through rough times. Anyways, TL;DR: this journal is just about saying a few words about the people I ap
