Creation Myth
Many, many moons ago
Lived a young God and his father.
The first, the God of Fire.
The latter, God of water.
The wise old God was making
A present for his boy.
The eager God of Fire
Sat waiting for his toy.
For weeks the old God tinkered
And amazed by it all,
He proudly showed his son
His pretty, lush green ball.
"It's called Earth," he told the little one.
"But the work has made me tired.
I'm going to nap, don't touch a thing!"
And he left the God of Fire.
The God of Fire was grateful,
But wanted something more.
He'd use his mind to make new things,
Since that's what Gods are for.
So he set out on a mission,

Shades of Sleep
Another blue ceiling, shadow-choked and unfamiliar,
stares back in sympathy - withered paint crackling
with unshed dust and old-man's tales of long ago,
a silent confidante with blown-bulb twilit wisdom -
It's comfort as cold as this half-empty bed.
Cataleptic - a midnight-waker with four hours lost
and the ceiling is shadow-smothered, blue gone grey
like old-man's ashes spread out over this dark grave
of a room - dust unto dust in the throat, and coughing
with all the enthusiasm of russian roulette.
Pull the trigger on the TV remote to no effect -
3am and the damn thing's still dead, the traitor
with screen black like a post-midn

Well Acquainted
We shared a cup of tea, she and I.
No milk, no sugar,
no honeycoated words to weaken the taste of departure.
We were connoisseurs, and well acquainted
with the many blends of coming change.
Understanding kept us mute, our ceremony quiet
as we stirred the aging, aromatic leaves.

We drank darjeeling once,
when the grass was frost-glamourous
and our eyes danced a dawn tango.
She wore red; I read her Blake's secret;
and we smiled over brimming cups.
'Your eyes are earl grey' I whispered,
when a mountain's shadow embraced us
and day turned into dusk into her eyes
as rain waltzed all around, enchanting,
to the scattered orchest

This piece is a rensaku (linked tanka), written for the-haiku-club's 2015 Summer Scents Contest (during the month of May). I choose my entry to not be something idyllic, but to be frank and real because of what climate change has wrought upon those of us who live on the west coast of the U.S., but I've expressed how I'll always remember it being before everything changed in the high deserts of California.
I've added a lovely preview piece featuring a photograph taken by Kelsi Nullibicity
who was so kind and gave me permission to use the image, which was then treated to look like a delicate watercolor, and finished with a font of an Asian feel, with a rich shade of color, and defined with thin, interior bordering to finish the effect by collaborating with the talented John RetroZombie who has always been able to translate my ideas & visions to perfection, and who's efforts made the finished image possible.
John, and Kelsi, my admiration and thanks to you both for your generosity!

2015 Summer Scents Contest: ClosedInspiration
"The lime trees were in bloom. But in the early morning only a faint fragrance drifted through the garden, an airy message, an aromatic echo of the dreams during the short summer night."
- Isak Dinesen, Winter's Tales
As spring gives way to summer nature unveils its full palette of fragrances. Whether it's a particular flower, fresh-cut grass, or the smell of rain, join the Haiku Club as we celebrate the beginning of summer by reminiscing over our favorite scents.

NaPo 2015 Winners Feature 2/? Hey guys, this is the 2nd feature for the NaPoWriMo 2015 winners. I figured I wanted to space these out and submit them every couple of days or so. I think I will go through all the features FIRST, and then with those out of the way I will get to ALL of the comments I owe LOL I now work 5 days a week, so I am pretty much never sleeping again with having to do dA stuff and trying to play games and crafting stuff.
Anyway, here are the next three for the feature I decided to up it to 6, so that I am not taking forever and getting out the features to these deserving people.
