(A Collaboration)
land-locked girl, her bare feet
digging gingerly into
the sorrel pony as
it leaps through buffalo grass,
shoulder-high and wind-blown,
the way it's mane and her hair flow,
singed by prairie sun-
free to be, ranging boundless
through the prairie endless
climbing, reaching for the clouds
that updraft towards stars unseen
against a brilliant sea of blue,
no bridle, no bit -
you would have none of it!
the ethereal zeal of your voice
embellishes the evening star
that i race to,
the eager wings of my pegasus
beating past illusory boundaries
to orbit your presence,
drawn in by the gravitational pull
of a guardian, an older sister.
your words are an afterglow
that brightens my vistas
and outshines the past
so i never have to look back
as i head for true north.
